It all began with an idea from two clinical health psychologists: provide effective,
accurate information to assist people in losing weight and improving their level of
fitness. Doctors Bret and Natalie Emery had a passion for the principles of physical
fitness and the increased energy provided by healthy eating. They had applied
these principles in their own lives for many years, but were amazed by how little of
this scientifically based information was available to the general public.
After watching American’s increase their body
weight to epic proportions, and having become the
fattest nation in the world, Doctors Emery could
not stand by without trying to make a
difference. They had seen numerous fad diets and
exercise gadgets take the country by storm, only
to be quickly disregarded a few months later as
the results promised never became reality.
Both Dr. Bret and Dr. Natalie left their respective career paths and joined together in effort to
create a solution for the growing obesity epidemic; with this, Emery Behavioral Medicine was born
in Weston, Florida. Both Bret and Natalie built the program from the ground up, making sure each
aspect was focused on the objective: client success!
Word spread quickly, as those who came to see either Dr. Bret or Dr. Natalie were awarded with
weight loss and physical conditioning success. Being located in South Florida, many professional
athletes and performers were introduced to the Emery approach to physical conditioning. The
Weston facility became the mecca of physical conditioning and weight loss knowledge. Dr. Bret
and Dr. Natalie’s dream of making a difference was quickly becoming a reality.
The success of the Emery approach became well known nationally and internationally as individuals
traveled to South Florida to seek guidance from Dr. Bret and Dr. Natalie. In 2005, a Canadian
company expressed interest in merging with Emery Behavioral Medicine. In early 2006, the two
companies merged and retained the name Emery Behavioral Medicine. In late 2006, expansion
occurred as a Georgia based facility was initiated and the Alpharetta facility was born.
Currently, expansion into Canada is underway. Regina will be home to the newest Emery facility,
with the grand opening scheduled for the spring of 2009.
